ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
This cultural nonprofit institution is a recognized leader in preserving media history and exploring the powerful influence of media on society. It operates an iconic public museum in New York City and produces highly regarded programming that bridges media, sports, gaming, tech, and entertainment. Programs include public showcases celebrating television and digital content, and industry forums tackling the most critical topics in media and technology today.

At its core is a renowned archive—one of the largest of its kind—spanning more than 100 years of media history. The archive also supports educational programming for K-12 students and educators nationwide.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, Marketing & Partnerships is a strategic, high-energy leader responsible for building brand reach and visibility through partnerships, audience development, and creative marketing campaigns. This role supports visitor growth, digital engagement, and membership expansion by leading external relations, overseeing campaign execution, and managing a direct report (Audience Development Manager).

Reporting to the VP, Marketing & Partnerships, this individual also plays a key role in developing new opportunities, driving special initiatives, and aligning marketing efforts with organizational goals.

Key Objectives:
  • Drive visitor traffic to the flagship New York City museum

  • Increase ticket sales and event registration (NY and LA)

  • Grow public and industry membership base

  • Expand engagement with digital content and campaigns


RESPONSIBILITIES

Partnership Development & External Relations
  • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships across NYC’s business, tourism, cultural, and hospitality sectors

  • Serve as lead account manager for promotional/media partners; oversee deliverables and reporting

  • Negotiate partnership terms and activation with support from internal stakeholders

  • Develop and manage campaigns with aligned marketing partners and media outlets

  • Represent the organization externally at events and stakeholder meetings

Audience Development & Team Leadership
  • Manage and mentor the Audience Development Manager to achieve attendance and engagement targets

  • Design and implement strategies to drive ticket sales and grow audience segments

  • Use data, outreach, and collaborative promotions to discover new audiences

  • Lead outreach efforts for major exhibitions, high-profile events, and VIP programs

Creative Direction & Campaign Management
  • Oversee development and rollout of compelling creative marketing campaigns

  • Develop campaign briefs and creative direction in alignment with brand voice

  • Direct creative teams and editors on marketing videos and visual collateral

  • Lead production of brand assets including sizzle reels, pitch decks, reports, and sales materials

  • Ensure timely delivery of assets across all platforms while maintaining brand standards

  • Collaborate with analytics team to monitor performance and optimize future efforts

Other Responsibilities
  • Utilize CRM tools for segmented outreach and tracking engagement

  • Conduct market and audience research to inform campaign strategies

  • Support VP on cross-functional strategic initiatives and special projects

  • Actively promote campaigns via social sharing and ambassador initiatives

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by executive leadership

Required Experience & Skills
  • 10+ years in marketing, partnerships, or brand strategy, ideally within media, entertainment, museums, or cultural institutions

  • Proven ability to build high-value partnerships and drive audience engagement

  • Experience leading creative campaigns and managing creative teams

  • Strong knowledge of experiential, digital, and integrated marketing strategies

  • Executive presence and interpersonal skills to engage with senior stakeholders and board-level contacts

  • Hands-on, collaborative leader who thrives in a fast-paced, in-person work environment

  • Willingness to work evenings/weekends to support events and programs

  • Bachelor's degree required; bilingual fluency in Spanish a plus
